Democrats Just BLOCKED This Important Bill – They Say No
(RightWing.org) – Once again, it seems Democrats may have their priorities wrong and are coming across as highly partisan. Recently, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) threatened Supreme Court Justices Brett Kavanaugh and Samuel Alito, saying if the court overturned Roe v. Wade, it would unleash a whirlwind, and the two justices would pay the price.
In May, Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito’s leaked draft of an abortion case opinion hinted that the high court might strike down Roe, and the protests against the justices and their families moved from government property to threats at their homes. Soon after the media reported the draft leak, the Senate passed a bill to provide the justices and their families the same protections afforded to members of Congress. Unfortunately, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) blocked the bill.
Kavanaugh Threatened at Home
Over the last month, far-left pro-choice abortion activists have picketed at the homes of conservative justices. On Wednesday morning, June 8, police arrested a suspect near Kavanaugh’s home. Officials said a man allegedly attempted to kidnap or murder the justice.
On Wednesday evening, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) took to the House floor to denounce the Democrat’s unwillingness to pass the Senate bill over the last several weeks. The House’s top-ranked Republican stated that Pelosi refused to take up the legislation and that it needed to pass in the House immediately. McCarthy placed the blame for the neighborhood protests and potential acts of violence on Democrats. He specifically pointed to Schumer’s irresponsible rhetoric and said with threats from members of Congress, the House needed to act to protect the justices.
Pelosi Doubles Down But Says a Vote Is Coming
On Thursday afternoon, Pelosi told reporters that the justices were not in danger and were protected. Yet, one reporter challenged her assertion since the news broke about the man’s arrest threatening Kavanaugh’s life. The Speaker shot back, saying that the SCOTUS justices and their families faced no danger over the weekend and that she would schedule a vote on a bill next week.
So, apparently, Pelosi believes that protestors and bad actors near the justice’s homes will take the weekend off. McCarthy responded by saying he couldn’t understand how the Speaker could make such a statement.
On at least two occasions, McCarthy brought a motion on the House floor to vote on the Senate bill under unanimous consent. Both times, House Democrats shot down the request, holding the legislation hostage. McCarthy asserted that Democrats continue to use heated rhetoric to encourage activists to exert pressure on the conservative justices.
Stay tuned. This partisan situation could get heated.
