Democratic Congresswoman Calls for Supreme Court Overhaul

(RightWing.org) – Democratic lawmakers are fired up after the US Supreme Court left a new Texas law in place that effectively overturned Roe v. Wade, at least for that state. Opponents of the measure asked the nation’s highest court to block enforcement of the statute until the case worked its way through the lower courts. However, SCOTUS rejected the emergency request.

Senator Mazie Hirono (D-HI) lashed out at the Supreme Court during an interview with MSNBC host Hallie Jackson on September 7. She began her rant by complaining about the Court’s recent use of the shadow docket, a procedure wherein SCOTUS doesn’t hear oral arguments before handing down summary decisions and emergency orders.

Next, she questioned the use of lifetime appointments for any job, much less serving on the Supreme Court. Continuing that line of thought, she suggested Democrats would soon be calling for term limits on justices.

She also raised the possibility of stacking the court with additional justices, a strategy supported by many Democrats to regain control of the Court. Currently, the Court has six Republican appointees and only three named by Democratic presidents.

Fortunately, with the filibuster in place and the Senate split 50/50, there’s just about a zero-percent chance of Democrats pulling off a coup and imposing term limits or stacking the Supreme Court.
