(RightWing.org) – One of the concerns Republicans have about mail-in voting is the ability of shady characters to harvest ballots. This is when a voter fills out their absentee ballot, seals it in an envelope, and then a person collects it from them to drop off at a mail center or some other official location. Those on the Right say this leaves the door wide-open to fraud, and in Nevada, the party proposed changes to make it safer. Unfortunately, the Democratic governor isn’t interested.
On August 25, Gov. Steve Sisolak (D) refused a request from Secretary of State Barbara Cegavske (R) to require people who collect more than 10 ballots to fill out paperwork with her office. The harvesters would have been required to jot down basic information, including party affiliation. The governor said Cegavske was using partisan terms and used language that sounds like “voter suppression rhetoric.”
Cegavske, on the other hand, argues she just wants to ensure “an open and fair election” this fall.

There was no reason for the governor to turn down this request. Keeping track of people collecting ballots is an excellent way to ensure they’re not committing fraud. But maybe the secrecy is the point.
