D.C.’s Latest “WARNING” Is A Downright Hoax
(RightWing.org) – The Washington, DC Metropolitan Area Transit Authority recently announced the creation of a new community policing and safety initiative. As part of the program, the Metropolitan Transit Police Department (MTPD) launched an ad campaign that includes placing signage at metro stations and on buses and trains. While combatting crime is a good thing, some of the money spent on the ad campaign targets a crime that only occurred once.
On June 9, The Washington Free Beacon (WFB) published a report discussing one of the MTPD’s ads, featuring a black woman reporting a white man for “yelling transphobic slurs” at a red-haired man on a metro train. The sign also displays the text number for reporting incidents, MyMTPD (696-873), and a QR code for saving the number to “your” contacts.

Curiously, the WFB found that federal data indicated less than 1% of anti-transgender incidents reported in the last 10 years involved white men. Additionally, a record review showed the MTPD didn’t record a single incident of harassment based on gender or race in 2021 and 2022.
The MTPD’s latest year-end report for the National Incident-Based Reporting System included data for 2020. Of the 973 crimes against persons, only 8 involved “hate/bias.” Further, only one of them involved anti-transgender bias.
However, its report also listed 907 assaults, 353 robberies, 305 drug/narcotics violations, 60 sex offenses, and 3 homicides.
Why do you think the MTPD targeted anti-LGBTQ bias in its ad campaign instead of other more prevalent crimes?
