(RightWing.org) – Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) posted a “horribly tone deaf” tweet on October 24, then left it up for a full day before finally deleting it on Sunday.
In the tweet, Schumer outlined the story of a Rochester, NY, veteran who recently committed suicide, apparently because when he stopped getting increased unemployment, he couldn’t pay his mortgage.
Schumer finished by saying “I just demanded we pass suicide prevention acts.”

What Schumer overlooked was that the reason this veteran and millions of other Americans stopped receiving extra unemployment benefits is that House Democrats, led by Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) have been blocking the next round of coronavirus assistance for months.
Despite appeals from Democrat governors including Gretchen Whitmer (MI), Tony Evers (WI), and Tim Walz (MN), Pelosi won’t allow any payments unless she gets a $2.2-trillion blowout that includes a boatload of non-COVID spending.
Senate Democrats just used the filibuster — which they say they dislike — to kill another coronavirus relief package.
Unemployment benefits. PPP. Testing. Vaccines. School funding. Protections for people with pre-existing conditions.
Every Democrat just voted to block it all.

The administration wants to push through a more affordable package targeted at the most vulnerable Americans – with its key features being a second round of stimulus checks and higher payments to the unemployed.
Last week, Schumer used the filibuster to block it.
Suicide among veterans is a national tragedy, not one any politician should politicize. If you or someone you know is considering self-harm, please call the Suicide Prevention Hotline at 800-273-8255.
