Chris Matthews Quits on Air

( – After 20 years of hosting MSNBC’s “Hardball” show, Chris Matthews announced on air that he’s retiring.

Matthews’ exit comes after numerous gaffes and mild meltdowns he’s had recently. Calls for his resignation intensified after he compared the rise of Sen. Bernie Sanders (D-VT) to the fall of WWII France.

While Matthews has apologized for some of his mistakes, the masses, especially avid social media users, weren’t swayed. According to insider sources, his departure was directly linked to the many controversies he’s stirred up lately. A spokesman for MSNBC stated that Mattews’ leaving was a “mutually agreed” decision.

Steve Kornacki is taking over as anchor on Hardball.
