(RightWing.org) – Communist China has come up with a great new way to get spy cameras into the US – sell them to us, then let us spy on ourselves. The Department of Homeland Security says Chinese-made drones used by all levels of the US government are collecting data and sending it back to China.
China dominates the non-military drone market, with just one company – DJI – holding a 70% market share. China is also the largest manufacturer of components; many “American-made” drones still use Chinese parts. This means most of the drones used for surveillance and monitoring by police, government agencies and businesses are potential Chinese espionage tools; and they’re being used to monitor government buildings, railroads and police operations. Their locations, movements and the imagery they record are all exposed to the Chinese intelligence service.

Now the Commerce Department has formally listed DJI on the US Entities List, restricting its access to the US market, but this doesn’t go far enough. DOD Undersecretary Ellen Lord is pushing hard for the US and its allies to become self-sufficient in drone manufacture and end our government’s reliance on Chinese drones. Drones are great tools, but we need to be able to trust them; right now, we can’t.
