Children as Young as 2 Will Be Forced to Wear Masks

( – Debate continues to surround the methods employed by various states to fight the COVID-19 pandemic. With more than 200 million coronavirus vaccines administered, one might expect the number of daily infections to decrease. However, this isn’t the case with Michigan.

Per state reports, the daily average of new cases increased from fewer than 1,000 cases per day in mid-February to more than 6,000 per day in April. On April 16, the Michigan Department of Health extended its face mask requirement to apply to children as young as two years old.

Critics of the new mandate question its timing, especially in light of the fact that Michigan’s health director and a top aide to Michigan’s Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer recently took out-of-state vacations.

Additionally, some parents expressed concerns about the ability to force young children to wear face masks. Dane Teal told Detroit NBC-affiliate WDIV-TV that people don’t understand the ability of a two-year-old to manipulate situations. According to him, his son Davis is “good at getting his way.”

Perhaps Michigan politicos and health department officials would better serve the needs of its people by enacting measures that would actually stand a chance of working.
