In yet another school shooting this year, this time at Saugus High School in California, Nathaniel Berhow was the perpetrator of a deadly act of violence. He took a gun to school on his 16th birthday and shot up his schoolmates on Thursday morning before turning the gun on himself. Two were killed and three were injured, including Nathaniel who is currently in “grave condition.”

The cause of Nathaniel’s actions is currently unknown, though it may have to do with his alcoholic father passing away within recent years. A childhood friend stated that Nathaniel was shy and introverted. Currently, his mother and girlfriend are cooperating with the police to investigate this tragedy.
Jared Axen, the family’s next-door neighbor, has been a life-long acquaintance of Nathaniel and his father. He commented on this matter during an interview.
“I can’t think of any red flags in our conversation when he would think of handling his hurt in this manner. He grew up with his father who was a hunter, and this was a normal activity for him. He grew up around firearms, it wasn’t a mystery, he knew how to use it and understood how it worked, he was responsible. He came off as a very responsible person.”
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims, their families and the other students in the school. We’ll keep you posted as this tragic story develops.
