UPDATE (9/21): Washington D.C. police are now investigating two separate shooting incidents that took place Thursday night. Two people are dead and five injured. In addition to the one first reported below, the second shooting took place in the northeastern section of the city.
Police have not made any arrests and are not sure if the incidents are related or not. They are following all leads and are currently looking for a light-colored Nissan seen leaving one of the scenes.
Reports of gunfire were reported near the White House at 10 p.m. EST Thursday night. According to the police, six people were shot during the incident. One adult male died and at least one more is in critical condition. Further information on the victims’ status is unknown at this time.
Local news station WJLA-TV, an affiliate of ABC, captured pictures of the event.

The police response shut down the intersection of 14th Street and Columbia Road, which is roughly two miles from the White House.
