[Breaking News] House Votes to Formalize Impeachment Inquiry Rules

Early Thursday morning, The US House of Representatives voted to approve the process of impeachment proceedings, which Democrats are calling the “Schiff Empowerment Act.”

Although House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will continue to be the ultimate authority, she has chosen Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, Rep. Adam “Shifty” Schiff (D-CA), to have near-total control over the impeachment proceedings. What could possibly go wrong??

Until today, the Intelligence Committee, the Oversight Committee, and Foreign Affairs have been conducting all impeachment interviews. But now, the farce will immediately be handed over to the Intelligence Committee to begin impeachment investigations.

The resolution will bar any and all Republicans, especially those who have been critical of the impeachment process, from being allowed in any interview rooms. This includes Republicans who are current members of participating committees. Sounds a little biased to us!

The resolution also gives Schiff complete control of the release of any past or future transcripts to the American public — something he doesn’t have to do at all.

In the resolution, it states,

“The chair is authorized to make publicly available in electronic form the transcripts of depositions conducted by the [Intelligence Committee] in furtherance of the investigation.”

He will also have the authority to control witnesses and conduct public hearings on the impeachment proceedings.

According to the resolution, the only ranking Republican on the Intelligence Committee that has the right to call a witness is Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA).

The resolution also states,

“To allow for full evaluation of minority witness requests, the ranking minority member may submit to the chair, in writing, any requests for witness testimony relevant to the investigation.

Any such request shall be accompanied by a detailed written justification of the relevance of the testimony of each requested witnesses to the investigation.”

In other words, Shiff controls what Republicans get.

Rep. Nunez said,

“The rules the Democrats rammed through simply confirm the absolute control Schiff has been exercising this entire time. He shouldn’t be involved in impeachment at all since none of this has any intelligence component, but Pelosi obviously thinks Nadler is incompetent.”

Republican Rep. Doug Collins (R-GA) said on Fox News that he expects Democrats will hold a number of small public hearings, select witnesses they believe have the most impact in the media, and exclude the rest.

He said Schiff would be the “the sole arbiter of everything impeachment.”

Here’s an official response from The White House:
