Biden’s EXECUTIVE ORDER Shows Who He’s Targeting
(RightWing.org) – After the US Supreme Court (SCOTUS) overruled Roe v. Wade, Democrats went on a tear to delegitimize the high court. Unfortunately, it didn’t stop there. The Left demanded that President Joe Biden do everything he could to overturn the SCOTUS ruling to give back a women’s right to an abortion.
So, Biden did what he often does. He issued a vague executive (EO) order and angrily made demands to Senate Democrats to counter the Dobbs decision. The questions are: does the president’s executive order go too far, and will he succumb to the far-Left’s demands to pack the court or end the filibuster so Democrats can execute their abortion agenda?
What’s in the Executive Order
In recent weeks, Democrats have demagogued the ruling and even made false, emotional statements despite the court going out of its way to debunk the Democratic talking points in its ruling. The majority ruled that the court did not impact “intimate sexual relations, contraception, and marriage.” While Justice Thomas suggested the court should reconsider those issues, he even stressed that this ruling does not impact those issues.
Yet, on Friday, July 8, President Biden signed an executive order with one purpose in mind: he sought to target pro-life red states and undermine the SCOTUS. The EO declared the Dobbs’ decision a “health crisis.” The president’s order attempted to:
- Shield women who get an abortion in states that outlaw the practice
- Remind the states they can’t ban medicated abortions
- Encouraged women to get an abortion in a state where it’s legal
In reality, the bark is more than the bite. The EO requires the Secretary of Health and Human Services to submit a report to the president with ideas and recommendations on how to expand reproductive rights in red states. In addition, the EO peddled a false narrative that red states could deny medical care for ectopic pregnancies. George Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley said the Democratic talking point about ectopic pregnancies was wrong and dangerous, and did not meet the legal definition of an abortion.
Still, if the president tries to overstep state rights under the Tenth Amendment, it’s likely to trigger legal action.
Biden Also Advocates for Ending the Filibuster But Pushes Against Court Packing
As pressure intensifies on Biden from the Left to do something, the president went someplace he’s refused to go before. On Tuesday, June 30, POTUS told reporters that the Senate must carve out an exception to the Senate filibuster. This would allow Democrats to pass abortion legislation with only 50 senators in the evenly divided upper chamber. The filibuster requires 60 votes to overcome a filibuster to begin debate on legislation and pass it with a simple majority.
Eradicating the filibuster has been a Democratic talking point for nearly two years. Still, aides to Sens. Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) say the two remain opposed to ending the filibuster, even for a carveout.
Regarding packing the court, on June 25, the president said he doesn’t support expanding the Supreme Court despite his disagreement with its rulings over the last year.
So, the Left is stuck, and the campaigns will likely get vicious as the midterm elections approach. Voters can expect a lot of hyperbole and misinformation from the Democrats.
