(RightWing.org) – We all know President Biden doesn’t support immigration controls, so nobody was surprised when, within hours of being inaugurated, he suspended construction of the border security fence. There’s just one problem – that suspension might be illegal.
On March 17, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and 39 of his GOP colleagues wrote to the Government Accountability Office (GAO) urging an investigation into the move. According to McConnell, Biden’s Executive Proclamation stopping work on the wall violates a 1974 act that bans the executive branch from refusing to spend funds that Congress has appropriated – and the 2021 spending bill that Congress passed in December includes $1.4 billion in appropriations for the border wall.
Paoletta: GAO has no option other than to find that Biden’s pause of the border wall funds is unlawful. They should quickly issue an opinion stating the Biden administration has broken the law, as they did when Trump held Ukraine funding for fewer days.https://t.co/HJtYTZre59

If the GAO rules in McConnell’s favor, Biden could be forced to restart the wall’s construction, which would be a big help in solving the illegal immigration crisis his policies have created at the border. More importantly, it would remind him that executive actions are tools for getting things done quickly – not a license to break the law. That isn’t a message Biden’s going to like, but it’s one he needs to hear.
