The move from traditional security services to user-operated systems is a trend taking the nation by storm. After all, you could be in control of your own security cameras and fully customize your system to meet your needs. Not to mention you’ll save money at the same time.
How great does that sound?!
That’s the premise behind devices like Amazon’s Cloud Cam system, and it’s a convincing selling point in an ideal world.
The problem is that we don’t live in an ideal world. What if someone was actively monitoring your security camera feeds without your knowledge? Amazon’s Cloud Cam could be watching you and your family as a “requirement” for the system to provide protection.
Amazon workers in India and Romania review footage clips from the sorts of cameras that you may be thinking of buying or that are already in your home. The premise is for humans to train these security cameras to distinguish differences between true threats and typical household movement.
Given how little big tech cares about your privacy, how likely do you think it is that Amazon is purely watching you “for your own safety?”
