AOC Uses Synagogue Shooting To Push Gun Control

Never one to see a bandwagon without jumping on it, renegade congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) has used the tragic synagogue shooting near San Diego on April 27th to push her far-left gun control agenda. Within hours of the attack, AOC was using it on Twitter to boost support for an anti-gun bill she’s backing — but the truth is a gun in the hand of a brave man helped keep the death toll down.

Highlights

Just a few hours after John T. Earnest murdered a woman and injured three more people at Poway synagogue on Saturday, April 27th, socialist rabble-rouser Ocasio-Cortez sent an inflammatory tweet blaming lack of gun control for the attack. “Heartbroken to hear of the San Diego synagogue shooting, particularly so on this final day of Passover,” she wrote. “We have a responsibility to love + protect our neighbors. The longer the Senate delays holding a vote on #HR8, the more we put Americans at risk.”

  • HR 8 mandates an expansion of federal background checks to cover all gun sales, including private transfers. It’s true this would close off one of the so-called “loopholes” that lets criminals get hold of guns, but the reality is criminals don’t buy guns from people who’re going to obey the law and get a background check carried out. They buy them from other criminals, or just steal them.
  • Because of the way HR 8 is written, it would ban 18 to 21-year-olds from acquiring handguns. Since 1968, federal law has banned gun stores from selling handguns to those under 21. If HR 8 gets through, almost all gun sales will have to be made by licensed firearms dealers — which basically means gun stores. So if you’re a 20-year-old woman living alone in a rough area, and you want a pistol for self-defense, AOC is now saying you can’t have one.
  • TEST
  • The restrictions AOC wants go way beyond anything to do with gun crime. Say a rancher wants one of his farmhands to go out in the back field and shoot some pigeons. Now, he’d just hand him a shotgun and a box of shells; under HR 8 they’d both have to go to a gun store, with the gun, and fill out a stack of federal forms to transfer the gun to the employee. Once the pigeons are dealt with they need to go back to the store to transfer the gun back to the rancher. Does anyone seriously think this law is going to be obeyed?
  • One thing that’s being overlooked is that California, where the shooting took place, has had the toughest gun laws in the nation for years. Did they prevent the attack? No. So why do people like AOC want to keep inflicting useless gun control on law-abiding Americans?
