Rep. Ted Yoho (R-FL) marks the 23rd Republican to vacate the House before 2020.
Yoho made his announcement in a letter to his supporters.
“I ran on a pledge to serve four terms — eight years and come home… I truly believe a person’s word is their bond and should live up to their word. I also meant that after eight years I would come home and pass the baton on to a new generation.”
Initially part of the Tea Party, Yoho believes it’s time for him to come home and focus on other priorities. He stated that his goal was to “leave this country a little better off for the next generation” and that history would be the ultimate judge of his actions. Although Yoho is vacating his seat, the 3rd Congressional District from which he hails from remains staunchly Republican.
Even though his seat will almost certainly remain in GOP hands, a new chart shows a worrisome trend regarding who could enjoy a majority in the House after 2020.
