(RightWing.org) – If history is any indication, Republicans should reign victorious in the upcoming 2022 midterm elections, retaking both the House and Senate. As a result, several Democratic lawmakers have already decided to call it quits rather than face increasingly angry voters next year.
On Tuesday, November 16, Rep. Jackie Speier (D-CA) became the latest Democrat to announce her decision not to run for reelection in 2022. She claimed it was time for her “to come home” and spend more time with her husband, children, and friends. Speier has represented California’s 14th District since January 2013. Her term ends in January 2023.

Speier joined the ranks of eight other House Democrats who had already announced their plans not to seek another term in 2022. Her resignation also fell a day after Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-VT) announced his retirement after serving eight terms in the US Senate, making him the longest-serving senator currently in the chamber.
It is entirely possible retirements like these could lead to an increased domino effect with other Democrats looking for an excuse to leave Washington before the Republican wave takes over Capitol Hill.
What do you think? Have Democratic lawmakers become something akin to rats abandoning a rapidly sinking ship? What’s the first thing you want Republicans to do once they take over from the Democrats?
