Adam Schiff Under Fire After His Connection to Debunked Steele Dossier

(RightWing.org) – The Democrat conspiracy theory about former President Donald Trump’s alleged collusion with Russia never looked very solid, but now it’s falling apart quite spectacularly – and those who backed it are in the line of fire.

The Russia conspiracy was mostly based on the so-called Steele dossier, a collection of claims about Trump produced by a British mercenary, Christopher Steele, who Hillary Clinton’s campaign team hired to dig up dirt on their opponent. Many Democrats rallied around the dossier, insisting it was reliable, and one of its most outspoken defenders was House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff (D-CA).

Schiff repeatedly pushed the dossier on social media and to journalists and slammed Republican efforts to investigate its authenticity. Now Steele’s main source for the “facts” in the document, Russian analyst Igor Danchenko, has been indicted on multiple counts of making false statements – and that leaves Schiff in an awkward position.

On November 9, Schiff appeared on ABC’s The View, where former State Department spokesman Morgan Ortagus grilled him mercilessly. Ortagus reminded Schiff of his vehement support for the dossier and repeatedly asked for an explanation. Schiff, of course, had no answers – but more questions are forthcoming as Special Counsel John Dunham’s investigation proceeds.

Schiff won’t be the only one facing questions, either. Plenty of other Democrats lined up behind Steele’s fake allegations. Representative Ted Lieu (D-CA) was another vehement supporter – and his office, like Schiff’s, is refusing to answer journalists’ questions about the dossier. How will they respond when the questions come from a special counsel instead of a reporter?
