(RightWing.org) – The C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group (C40) is an organization comprised of nearly 100 of the world’s major cities “united in action” to fight the so-called ravages of climate change. They hope to cut carbon emissions in half and limit global warming to 1.5°C (2.7°F) over the next seven years. The group recently reemphasized an earlier report calling for horrifying bans by 2030.
In 2019, the C40 published its now-infamous “The Future of Urban Consumption in a 1.5°C World” headline report. The 68-page document categorized the group’s progressive and ambitious targets.
- Aviation
- Electronics and household items
- Private transportation
- Clothing and textiles
- Food
- Infrastructure and buildings
Reviewing a few of those goals presents a horrifying glimpse at the C40’s plans for the future. The group broke them down into progressive and ambitious targets. The former represents an acceptable incremental change in consumer choices; the latter covers goals based on the hope that production becomes more “resource-efficient” over time.
A sampling of the group’s targets reveals what appears to be unrealistic expectations. The following chart lists the C40’s progressive targets, followed by a forward slash (/) and its ambitious goals.
- Meat consumption: 16 kg (35.2 lbs) per person annually/ 0 kg
- Dairy consumption: 90 kg (198 lbs) per person annually/ 0 kg
- New clothing items: eight per person annually/ three per individual
- Private vehicle ownership: 190 per 1,000 people/ 0 private vehicles
- Short hall return flights: One per person every two years (less than 1500 km or 932 miles)
Making matters worse, 14 American cities belong to the C40. They include Austin, Houston, Boston, Chicago, Miami, Los Angeles, New York City, New Orleans, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Portland, San Francisco, Seattle, and Washington, DC.
The C40 claims the report is an analysis and not a plan. However, some news organizations are expressing skepticism regarding that explanation. For instance, Natural News published an article about the topic, taking the group to task on August 22.
Citing information from The Federalist, Natural News reported that those 14 American cities plan to completely ban private vehicle ownership and meat and dairy consumption by 2030 “to conform to the [C40’s] ‘green’ climate standards.
