20,000 People Sign Petition to Oust This Anti-Police Mayor

(RightWing.org) – Democrats across the country are pushing to defund police departments. They’re doing so despite the public’s opposition to the movement. Now, one mayor and city council members are facing the music after they voted to decrease their law enforcement budget.

In Oklahoma, the group Unite Norman gathered more than 20,000 signatures to recall Mayor Breea Clark. Additionally, the organization was able to find enough residents to sign a petition to recall three city council members.

In order to recall elected leaders in the city, Unite Norman needed signatures from at least 25% of each individual’s constituencies. The group readily passed the thresholds.

Russell Smith, the group’s co-founder, celebrated the victory during a speech to supporters outside of City Hall on August 14. He said, “What we just did was historic,” and added they were “taking our town back.”

According to The Oklahoman, the decision to recall the officials was directly related to the decision to defund the police budget by $865,000. Unite Norman condemned the resolution, and the organization took action.

Democrats around the country should take note. The people can only be pushed so far before they react. Attacking police officers may just be the straw that breaks the camel’s back; it certainly was in Norman, Oklahoma.
