14 Federal Agencies Named in Lawsuit
(RightWing.org) – Over the last two years, America has entered a significant debate that could heavily influence its future. Are elections free, fair, and lawful? After the 2020 presidential campaign, some questioned if they were in numerous states. Now, a group is suing 14 federal agencies accusing them of trying to take over elections and refusing to disclose their plans.
On March 7, 2021, President Joe Biden issued an Executive Order on Promoting Access to Voting. The order caused concern for election integrity experts and Constitutional scholars. On Thursday, October 6, The America First Legal Foundation (AFL) filed two lawsuits alleging the administration is concealing a secret plan to take over elections ahead of the November midterms.
Lawsuits Filed Against 14 Federal Agencies
Biden’s EO ordered the government’s 600 agencies to submit a plan to “expand citizens’ opportunities to register to vote and to obtain information about, and participate in, the electoral process.” With less than four weeks until election day and people mailing in ballots across the country, no one appears to know the results of his order.
Why is it important?
The order requires federal agencies to educate the public on how to vote, request a mail-in ballot, and cast one in the election. That may seem innocent enough. Yet, there are also controversial provisions. For example, under the EO, the government is responsible for ensuring voters receive registration forms and mail-in ballots. Additionally, it is to seek out nonpartisan third-party groups and state officials to provide the services and assist voters “in completing voter registration and vote-by-mail ballot application forms” consistent with state laws.
In a statement released by the AFL, it alleges the administration is using its powers without approval from Congress or the US Constitution. It said the order raised election integrity concerns and got the attention of some in Congress who have started investigations into the matter. The organization said it sued to fight for information and wants to ensure elections are free, fair, and lawful. It accused the administration of hiding its plans to use money meant for core government purposes to participate in “left-wing political causes.”
Administration Ignores Formal Requests for Documents
Numerous members of Congress repeatedly asked for details about agency plans but were not provided any. Additionally, watchdog groups, the media, and private citizens filed requests under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), but the government had not responded.
Mollie Hemingway, the editor-in-chief of The Federalist, said mobilizing voters is always a political act undertaken normally by political campaigns. She added it’s unconstitutional for the executive branch to strip states of their authority and take powers not granted to it by Congress.
The AFL says one of its purposes is to flip the legal argument on the radical left-wing activists and defend citizens’ rights, the country, and the American way of life.
